Oceanus International School firmly believes in a democratic and participatory school culture, one that is centred on innovation and creativity, and grounded in humanist and civic values, in harmony with nature and the environment.
Solidarity, empathy, and innovation play a central and interconnected role within an active, constructivist pedagogical approach.
In this context, and with the aim of enriching its educational offering, the School provides children and students with distinctive projects that foster broader, more diverse, and highly engaging learning experiences.
ABC DAS EMOÇÕES
Through this emotional literacy programme, the aim is to connect the school environment with the family and wider society in the development of both intrapersonal and interpersonal knowledge, as well as emotional regulation.
Promoting socio-emotional skills from an early age helps to establish mechanisms that support the development of key capacities essential to individual well-being, while also helping to prevent emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
The programme consists of regular 45-minute sessions, delivered to the whole class by the school psychologist, who leads a series of interactive and reflective activities, with a strong emphasis on a psychoeducational approach.
Trilhos
Inspired by the Eco-Schools “Eco-Trails” concept, the Trilhos project aims to encourage children to explore and learn about the natural surroundings in and around the school, fostering awareness of environmental features and sustainability.
Regular visits to the “Forest” – a natural area adjacent to the College – are a key part of this experience.
With its abundance of trees, plant life, and a small stream, this space serves as a true catalyst for meaningful learning and a springboard for new discoveries.
Apple Education
We are living through a time of profound technological transformation, defined by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and characterised by the constant presence of digital language, artificial intelligence, and global connectivity. These shifts challenge schools to rethink their teaching practices and to seek new ways of engaging with pupils who are born into a world already shaped by technology. At Colégio Oceanus, it is our mission to prepare students for this ever-evolving landscape, while remaining firmly rooted in the humanist and pedagogical values that define our identity.
As an Apple Distinguished School, Oceanus International School integrates the use of iPad and Apple TV into the learning experience. Each pupil is equipped with an iPad — a versatile and accessible tool that enables personalised learning, meets individual needs, and fosters creativity, autonomy, and active participation. Complementing this.
Apple TV transforms the classroom into a collaborative environment, bringing ideas and projects to life in dynamic and shared ways.
Our vision goes beyond merely following technological trends. We are committed to using these tools to enrich and innovate teaching practice, making it more inclusive, engaging, and meaningful.
Kindness Project
Several studies have shown that projects centred on kindness bring significant benefits across various dimensions of human development.
We believe that values like friendship, cooperation, sharing, and empathy are most effectively developed from an early age, and we are committed to embedding them in the everyday life of our School.
Aligned with this vision, the Kindness Project remains a central pillar of our educational approach and is actively promoted by the entire teaching team.
This project is embodied not only through daily attitudes and behaviours, but also by the active participation of each class in choosing and supporting one or more causes throughout the school year. Children are encouraged to reflect and take part in choosing the most meaningful way to contribute, which may include initiatives such as school fairs, donation drives, volunteer actions, or letter exchanges, among others.
Yscience
Oceanus International School, in partnership with Yscience, offers pupils privileged access to science through hands-on experiences that stimulate natural curiosity, critical thinking, and the ability to question. Yscience is an innovative educational project that promotes direct contact between scientists and children, providing practical workshops where science becomes accessible, engaging, and closely connected to pupils’ everyday lives. This partnership strengthens Colégio Oceanus’ commitment to providing meaningful and diversified learning experiences, valuing creativity, research, and the connection between scientific knowledge and daily life.
Eco-Escola
Eco-Schools is an international programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education and has been implemented in Portugal since 1996 by ABAE – the Blue Flag Association of Europe. Its main goal is to promote Environmental Education for Sustainability, recognising and encouraging the quality work carried out by schools in this field.
At Oceanus International School, the Eco-Schools programme is led by a multidisciplinary team committed to involving the entire school community – students, staff, and families – in building an active and aware environmental culture. Through concrete projects, campaigns, challenges, and collaborative actions, we aim to foster a strong sense of ecological responsibility and active citizenship from an early age.
This programme also provides a valuable opportunity for children to develop a deeper critical awareness of how their actions impact the environment and to learn that even small gestures can make a significant difference in preserving the planet.
Our complementary programmes reflect our commitment to a holistic and inclusive education, where each child is encouraged to explore, discover, and grow across multiple dimensions of knowledge and personal development.
